Start by identifying which framework actually applies.
The most common planning mistake is treating SQF/BRCGS systems, HACCP plans, and FSMA Food Safety Plans as interchangeable. They overlap, but they solve different compliance and certification needs.

FAQ
A few distinctions worth understanding.
Is an FDA Food Safety Plan the same as a HACCP plan?
No. They share hazard-analysis concepts, but the Preventive Controls framework and traditional HACCP frameworks have different regulatory structures and requirements.
Is SQF or BRCGS just a HACCP plan?
No. HACCP or food-safety planning is one part of a much broader management system that also includes prerequisite programs, documentation, internal verification, management responsibility, corrective action, traceability, supplier controls, and other requirements.
Can you fix an existing system instead of rebuilding it?
Yes. Gap assessments, reassessments, targeted program rewrites, forms, corrective action, and audit preparation can often address the problem without replacing everything.
Can you help determine what applies to us?
Yes. Product, process, regulatory jurisdiction, customer requirements, and certification goals usually make the correct starting point clear.
Still not sure which path fits?
That's a perfectly reasonable first question.
